Enduring Job Retrenchment
Posted by Ms Vianca | Under Career Talks on Monday Monday Mar 2, 2009Yes, I am not alone. Lots of professionals around the world were affected by massive lay off due to global depression. Being one of them I understand the feeling jobless. It said from mysinchew that in Asia will be expecting 7.2 million more jobless people in 2009. And Philippines will have labour force growth in 2010 for about 4.9%.
More than 15, 000 people lost job in past two months, and the government fear to it will increase to 800, 000 for this year.
To keep the balance the government launched a project under “green collar”, has category such as “re-greening of logged-over uplands” and the ” regeneration of mangrove areas,” which is a contractual job. And will hire 180, 000 jobless. (other source: nasdaq)
Read from The Manila Bulletin published last Sunday March 1, 2009 that more than 400,000 job orders have been placed with the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) are waiting to be filled. However, recruitment agency find it hard to fill in the vacancies due to shortage of multi-skilled job applicant . Most job vacancy belongs to construction and manufacturing. (other source: inq7)
I appreciate how government tried to help out the jobless and retrenched professional by this project and follow ups. But I am just not yet allowed to work abroad for now as agreed upon Department of Science and Technology Scholarship (RA 7687). And maybe, I am not determined to leave home.
So I must say, working on line is another choice for IT professional like me. Learning how internet marketing and cyber world business work will be another career I am willing to walk through.
